This is the first of a new series we are introducing this academic year that we’re calling Careers Conversations.
We’re asking members of staff in ALN libraries to share and explain their route into libraries and their progress to their current role. We’re hoping to have sessions from staff with lots of different and diverse backgrounds and with lots of different and diverse ways into the profession.
Alex Wheeler is kicking off the series for us. He is an Academic Liaison Librarian working at Manchester Metropolitan University supporting Schools within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. He has worked in Academic Libraries for 10 years with roles in collections, digital and academic engagement teams.
Alex has recently completed a secondment teaching on the Library and Information Management programme at Manchester Metropolitan University.
He has published and spoken at conferences about distance learning librarianship, Artificial Intelligence, resource development and information seeking behaviour of medical professionals.
When he is not in work, he is kept busy by his seven-year-old daughter. In his pre-library life, he was a History Teacher so still loves a good history book.
